Weather experts are keeping an eye on what they're calling a 'widespread high wind event'. For those traveling, be prepared.

As the weather gets nicer in our area, that means storm season is right around the corner. The Wichita Falls wind can be brutal at times and the later we get in the week, the worse it is going to get. Apparently, this Friday (March 14,2025) almost the entirety of the Northwest portion of Texas is expected to get 60 miles per hour wind gusts. For us in Wichita Falls, they have us getting near 70 mile per hour wind gusts.

We're several days out from when this supposed to happen and models can change. However, be aware on Friday for potential dust storms, extreme fire conditions, light damage to infrastructure, and hazardous driving conditions for semis/trailers/RVs.

Worst Wind Gusts in Wichita Falls History?

Of course in Wichita Falls history, the highest wind gust ever recorded was during a tornado. Turns out it was the the 1964 tornado, which was one of the first tornadoes shot on live television for a national audience. Wind gusts on that day exceeded 260 miles per hour.
