Wichita Falls Wins Best Road Cycling Event in the Country
Readers with USA Today were asked to vote on the best road cycling event in the country and for 2026, Wichita Falls has come out on top.
Well for decades, Wichita Falls has been the home for the Hotter'N Hell Hundred. Wichita Falls is known for its brutal summer heat, so why not ride 100 miles on a bicycle in August? The event attracts thousands of people to Wichita Falls every year and now it looks like it is getting some national attention.
USA Today Ranks Hotter'N Hell Hundred Top Road Cycling Event
USA Today said the following about the annual Wichita Falls bike ride. "Called "a Texas 'ride' of passage," Hotter'N Hell Hundred is one of the oldest and largest bicycling events in the country. You might need to be a bit mad to take on the Endurance Ride — which lives up to its billing of "hell on wheels" — as riders must bike 100 miles in the often 100-degree August heat. However, there are plenty of perks to keep you sane, from a pre-race spaghetti dinner, breakfast buffet, and sports massages to the welcoming Finish Line Village where you can cool off. "
Wichita Falls Reclaims the Number One Spot!
Wichita Falls previously was number one in this same poll back in 2024. Unfortunately in 2025, the Hotter'N Hell Hundred slipped all the way to the third best in the country. The New York Five Boro Bike Tour took the top spot last year. Then America's Most Beautiful Ride in California taking the second place finish.
When is the Hotter'N Hell Hundred in 2026?
August 27th through the 30th is the official Hotter'N Hell Hundred weekend this year, with the big ride taking place on August 29th. For those interested in registering, you can get more info on the Hotter'N Hell website. Friendly reminder for those that don't think they can do 100 miles.
