Report: Texas One of the Least Safe States in the U.S.
A recent study found Texas to be the 3rd least safe state in the country.
I must admit to being surprised at the results of the study by WalletHub. I’ve always felt pretty safe here in the Lone Star State. But it is what it is.
Then again, I live in the sticks. One of the main reasons I choose to live outside of the big city is that life tends to be uneventful in cities like Wichita Falls, the place I call home. And that’s just the way I like it.
But there’s more to a place being considered safe than personal safety. In addition to crime rates, researchers compared states using key indicators such as road safety, financial safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness to reach their conclusions.
Texas Safety Rankings (1 = safest)
Personal and Residential Safety Rank – 39
Financial Safety Rank – 38
Road Safety Rank – 44
Workplace Safety Rank – 32
Emergency Preparedness Rank – 48
Admittedly, those are some pretty shocking statistics. Hopefully, those in power will take notice of the findings and address the issues.
I realize you can’t merely wave a wand, and problems will instantly disappear. But every little action toward making Texas a safer place is a step in the right direction.
