Former Wichita Falls Star Quarterback Has a New Job in the NFL
Rider alumni definitely have fond memories of this guy and it looks like he's moving with his former offensive coordinator.
J.T. Barrett's Football Dream Continues On
After graduating from Rider High School in Wichita Falls back in 2012. J.T. Barrett went to The Ohio State University. Buckeyes have fond memories of Barrett because he's the only quarterback in the Michigan/Ohio State Rivalry to never lose to the rival school. You go 4-0 all four years at Ohio State against Michigan, you will be remembered forever. He also helped the school win a college football national championship in 2014, but sadly an injury earlier in the season stopped him from playing in that game.
Barrett's NFL Career
After his career at Ohio State, Barrett played several seasons in the NFL. With stops in New Orleans, Seattle, and Pittsburgh. He even signed to play one season in the CFL for the Edmonton Elks and decided to retire after suffering an injury before the 2022 season that would have sidelined him the entire year.
Did You Know J.T. Barrett Has Been a Coach on the Detroit Lions?
After his playing career ended, Barrett got back into the NFL as an offensive assistant for the Detroit Lions. In recent years, his position was upgraded to assistant quarterbacks coach. The Detroit Lions offense while Barrett has been there has been one of the best in the NFL. The Offensive Coordinator for the Lions was Ben Johnson, one of the hottest names in the NFL for a head coaching position in the league. Ben has moved to Chicago to be the head coach of the Bears and he's taking Barrett with him.
J.T. Barrett New Quarterbacks Coach for the Chicago Bears
Although an official statement has not come from the Bears. Over the weekend, several NFL insiders have reported that Johnson has hired Barrett as the team's official quarterbacks coach. The Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams with the number one overall pick in last year's draft. Hopefully Ben Johnson and J.T. Barrett can help him reach the success that a number one overall pick is supposed to have. Good luck to the former Rider Raider at his new position in the NFL.
