When the Dallas Cowboys Redesigned Their Throwback Jersey
Throwback jerseys are a thing that people love and the Dallas Cowboys decided to do a complete redesign when the NFL was celebrating an anniversary.
The Dallas Cowboys Throwback You Picture
If you ask a Dallas Cowboys fan what their throwback uniform is, 99% of fans will say the one pictured above. The Dallas Cowboys will occasionally wear these on Thanksgiving with the original retro white helmets. However, when the NFL was all about throwback uniforms, the Dallas Cowboys decided to complete redesign a new jersey.
1994 75th Anniversary of the NFL
Back in 1994, teams were encouraged to wear throwback jerseys to honor the 75th anniversary in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys decided to do a completely new jersey that they felt honored their original uniform, but gave it some modern touches. The first 'fauxback' jersey was worn on Thanksgiving day in 1994 and the Cowboys would wear it in several games the rest of the season.
'Cursed' Jerseys?
The Cowboys famously wore them in the 1994 Championship game in which they would not three peat as Super Bowl Champions. Many fans saying they should never wear these jerseys again and some fans think they went away after the NFC Championship loss, which is sort of true.
1995 Season White Fauxback Switched to Blue
The following season the colors were switched on the jersey for a few games. The Cowboys would not wear the fauxback uniform once in the playoffs. They wore their traditional white jerseys on their way to their fifth Super Bowl victory in every playoff game. Some people think that was the end of these jerseys, but they have been worn only one other time.
Thanksgiving 2001
When people think of the 2001 Thanksgiving game, people probably think of Creed front man Scott Stapp in the white Dallas Cowboys jersey. However, the Dallas Cowboys were not wearing those on this day. For the first time in years, they brought back the fauxback jersey and it has not been worn since.
The Last Time the Cowboys Wore the Fauxback Jerseys
Sorry to bring Ryan Leaf memories back into your life. Nowadays when the Cowboys want to wear a 'throwback' jersey they go back to the original 1960's look. I don't know if these will ever come back again, but some fans are glad to see them gone.
