
Torrential Rainfall Leads to Flooding Throughout Wichita Falls, Texas
It was a severe weather night in Wichita Falls with many keeping an eye on a possible tornado touching down. Looks like this morning some Wichitans are dealing with flooded roadways.
For anyone traveling over the Wichita River in between Texas and Oklahoma. They're currently keeping an eye on the Wichita River reaching a flood stage. With all the rain this area received last night and more rain in the forecast. Please take caution if you're near this area over the next few days. A flood warning is remaining in effect until Saturday, May 3rd.
Due to heavy rainfall last night, Wichita Falls is dealing with some flooded roadways this morning. Please take caution if you're getting around town the next few days. The City of Wichita Falls has released a statement on areas that tend to flood first when torrential rainfall hits like this.
Wichita Falls Warns Citizens to Avoid These Potential Flooded Roadways

- Ave E and Giddings
- E. Scott and E. Ft. Worth
- Rowland and Windthorst
- Alabama and Lebanon
- 1700 Block of W. Rathgeber
- Hampstead and Harrison
- Broad and 6th Street
Residents who live in the East Side, Wranglers Retreat, Horseshoe Bend Estates and portions of Tanglewood Estates are encouraged to have a plan in place if flooding were to occur.
Last night several storm chasers were in the area, keeping an eye on a potential tornado touching down. Many captured footage of the heavy rainfall flooding many parts of Wichita Falls last night.
Wichita Falls has activated the Emergency Operations Center to monitor the latest on the flood potential. For any emergencies call 911. For non-emergencies call 940-720-5000. Also if you cannot see a curb on a roadway, that roadway is not safe to drive through for most vehicles. Turn around, don't drown.
Wichita Falls has rain in the forecast through Friday. This weekend it looks like we will be getting a break from the precipitation. However, rain chances return Monday and Tuesday as well.
Flooding can develop very quickly and is possible overnight, meaning residents will need to set up methods to receive alerts and stay informed. The city also said some neighborhoods are at increased risk to lose power if floodwaters rise too high.
Stay safe the next few days and have a plan in place if you're in one of the potential flooded areas mentioned above.
