Good news for those that wish high speed rail was here in America. A plan is being put in place to get one going with three different stops in Texas.

Amtrak has officially launched a procurement process to select a Delivery Partner for their high speed rail plan. The plan is for a 240 mile long high speed rail between Dallas and Houston. One other stop is planned in Brazos Valley, but a permanent city has not been announced for that yet. Many are speculating Bryan or College Station since they're the two biggest in the area.

Amtrak has started what is called a RFQ. Which stands for Request for Qualifications, they're currently looking for bids to see who can build this high speed rail in Texas. Amtrak was awarded a $64 million planning grant from the Federal Railroad Administration last September and has taken charge of the project.

How Long Would a High Speed Rail Trip Take?

For folks that travel from Dallas to Houston by car. The trip normally takes around four hours. With a high speed rail system able to hit speeds of just over 200 miles per hour, the trip from Dallas to Houston would take around 90 minutes. Texas Rail Advocates first reported this next step in high speed rail coming to Texas.

How Much Would a High Speed Rail Ticket Cost?

Obviously we're years away from something like this getting completed in Texas. However, the current price for a high speed rail ticket for this kind of distance would be somewhere between $75-$130. The more expensive price would be for a more comfortable seat or better leg room for instance. We will wait and see if high speed rail becomes a reality in Texas.
