Here’s a spooky statistic for Texans just in time for Halloween. It’s something you will want to keep in mind while on the roads this month.

Texas Roads Have a Reputation for Danger 

It’s been well documented that the roads in Texas aren’t the safest. I’ve written about the subject many times, hoping it will catch people’s attention and maybe make driving in the Lone Star State a little safer. The way I see it, if one person becomes a better defensive driver after reading an article I wrote, that’s a win.

But bad habits are hard to break. People become so comfortable doing things they know shouldn’t be when behind the wheel, they begin to think that something bad can’t happen to them. For instance, I see someone staring at their phone while driving every single day. And I usually see people driving while distracted several times a day. 

Here’s the thing – as dangerous as the roads are in Texas in general, they’re even more dangerous during the month of October, according to a study by Fruity King. In fact, Texas is the second-most dangerous state to drive in, behind only California.

Fatal Crashes Spike During Spooky Season 

I’m not going to bore you with all the details. Just know that fatal crashes are nearly four times the national average in October. That should scare you more than any movie you’ll watch this Halloween. Y’all be careful out there.
