Texas Airport Named Most ‘Lawless’ for Baggage Claims
I regret to inform you that a Texas airport was named the worst for baggage claim issues.
Now, I haven’t flown in 30 years, so I don’t have much of a frame of reference when it comes to baggage claim issues these days. However, I flew quite frequently from 1991-96 while I was in the Navy. During that time, I had zero baggage claim issues at any airport.

One thing that hasn’t changed since I last flew is that there’s nothing to stop someone from stealing your luggage from the baggage claim area. It’s done 100% on the honor system. You don’t steal my luggage, and I won’t steal yours.
But just like anything else done using the honor system, there will be bad actors who take advantage of it and steal from others.
AirAdvisor recently released the results of a study to determine which U.S. airports were the worst for baggage claim issues. Researchers analyzed 55 airports using passenger volume, Google ratings and Yelp reviews, lost luggage searches in the vicinity, and average walking time from gate to baggage claim to reach their conclusions.
Ultimately, they found Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to have the highest luggage theft risk in the nation.
While that’s certainly a black eye for DFW (and a win for Dallas Love Field), it’s important to get the info out there so travelers are aware of the risk. Not to mention, to force the powers that be at the airport to address the issue.
