North Texas was on the receiving end of some brutal straight-line winds yesterday (November 18).

The line of storms came through Wichita Falls at around 5:30 am, causing me to jump straight out of bed (which is no easy task). Seriously – the winds were so crazy that I thought a tornado was bearing down on us.

Fortunately, a twister didn’t strike Wichita Falls. But as you can see in the video below, straight-line winds can cause a whole lot of damage.

I was bummed to look outside and see a huge tree limb lying in the middle of my backyard. It’s never fun to have to break out the chainsaw, cut the limb into pieces, load those pieces into the bed of my pickup, and then wait in line at the dump ground.

However, after watching that patio get annihilated by high winds, I consider myself lucky.

I would much rather deal with the hassle of hauling a limb away than have to pony up for a new set of patio furniture. Of course, I assume the furniture was damaged beyond repair. It’s possible they were able to salvage it.

More than anything, the clip serves as a stark reminder that while spring is considered storm season, it’s pretty much always storm season in this part of the country.
