Just How Interested is Texas in the World Cup?
Are you psyched for the World Cup?
Personally, no matter how hard I try, I just can’t get into soccer. And if you know me, you know I’m a sports nerd. I’m into all kinds of sports, but for whatever reason, I’m just kind of “meh” when people start talking about the World Cup.
I’m always looking for some sort of sport to entertain me in the evenings. For me, watching a good game is the perfect way to wind down. So, I will watch soccer from time to time if the USA is playing in the World Cup or if there is an FC Dallas game on.
But I’ll zone out the entire time.
And here’s the thing about the World Cup this year – it's happening during a time of year when most of us in Texas only care about football. The World Cup typically happens during the summer when it only has to compete with baseball. But it’s so ungodly hot in Qatar during the summer, they moved it to fall.
Which is why I think so many Texans don’t give a rat's ass about the World Cup this year. A study conducted by Gambling.com to determine which states were most and least pumped about the World Cup found that California was the only state that cared less about the World Cup.
Will the decision to move the World Cup to the fall ultimately backfire on FIFA? It’s too early to tell, but if I were betting money, I would bet the TV ratings will be lower than usual this year.
