What did you wear to your prom? Little did you know you could have saved a lot of money just using duct tape.

Well today I discovered that the Duck Tape Company (Yes I am aware it's duct tape, but this company is called Duck) has once again put on their 'Stuck at Prom' contest. Since 2001, the company has award scholarships to high school students that make a dress or suit out of duct tape. I happened to see that they just announced their 2025 winners and happened to notice a local girl put her name in the running to win.
Abigail's Duct Tape Dress from Lawton, Oklahoma
Abigail attends MacArthur High School in Lawton and made this dress in 146 hours, using 47 rolls of duct tape. As you can see from the photos, it has religious symbolism all over it and apparently the dress was inspired by Abigail's grandfather who sadly passed away.
Abigail's Theme of Her Duct Tape Prom Dress
Abigail told her story to the Duck Tape Company.
My faith and my art have always been inextricable parts of my identity, and this project has allowed me to combine the two in a way I never could before. After my grandfather passed, I questioned my faith a lot. He was a priest and an artist and an inspiration to me in both categories. This project made me feel closer to him and closer to God as I recalled the bible stories he told me when I was little.
Abigail's Dress Has Different Bible Stories Featured Throughout
As you can see scrolling through the photos, her dress features such bible passages as Jesus feeding the five thousand people, Daniel in the lion's den, and Noah's ark to name a few. "I feel more secure in my faith after this project and I hope I was able to effectively express through this new medium how much each of these stories means to me," Abigail told the Duck Tape Company.
Sadly, Abigail Did Not Win the Grand Prize
I just found out about this contest today because the company announced the winners this morning. Now the grand prize winner was Emmalyn Holland of Glenmoore, Pennsylvania, won the $15,000 Grand Prize Dress award with a hot pink gown that took 176 hours and 31 rolls of duct tape to complete. I personally think Abigail got screwed on this one. Hopefully her hard work doesn't go unrecognized here in Texoma and wanted to give her a shout out.
