Do you know the story of how Wichita Falls came to be? Well Rick Kimmons here tells us the history of our town and many of you probably didn't know this.

Well Wichita Falls was founded back in 1876. Now you have probably heard that Wichita Falls got its name from the Wichita River. Back in the day, the Wichita River had a waterfall at some point and that is how Wichita Falls got the name. That waterfall that made our city famous didn't last long in our city's history. A flood in 1886 destroyed the original Wichita Falls waterfall. That is why over 100 years later in 1987, a new man made waterfall was built off of I-44.

For years, we were all told that Wichita Falls got the name that way. Well Rick Kimmons here tells us the 'real story' of how Wichita Falls came to be. According to Rick, our mayor was named Wichita. Which would be one hell of a coincidence. Rick says our Mayor Wichita got drunk and fell off a cliff and died. The newspaper read, 'Wichita Falls' and the rest is history.

Well according to the Wichita Falls website, our first mayor was Otis T. Bacon. I also am unable to find anything on a Mayor Wichita, but looks like Rick's page is dedicated to dad jokes about different Texas town names. Give him a follow and go check him out if you need a quick laugh.
