Wichita Falls to Begin Using Goats to Help Grass Growth Around Town
Don't be shocked while you're driving around Wichita Falls if you see a herd of goats. This is actually a part of the city's plan.
Remember the days where Wichita Falls didn't get rain? Yeah, nobody wants to remember those days. The one plus about the dryer years in Wichita Falls was that the city did not have a tough time maintaining the grass. This year however with all the rain in the forecasts, the grass has been growing at an exponential rate. Just about a month ago, the city was looking for bids for companies to help mow the grass around town.
'Goatscaping' Coming to Certain Parts of Wichita Falls
In an effort to help the city of Wichita Falls, they have looked into what has become known as 'goatscaping'. Which is exactly what it sounds like. A herd of goats will be let loose at certain parts of Wichita Falls and they will eat the overgrown grass. A shepherd and their dog will make sure the goats stay where they need to around town. They will eat about an acre a day. Good news, a much more greener alternative than running a mower. Bad news, when goats eat, they got to poop. So hopefully your favorite parks don't have some new droppings at them.
Weeks Park to Be the First Area that 'Goatscaping' is Used in Wichita Falls
Just off of Southwest Parkway next week, you might notice a herd of goats clearing Weeks Park. Assistant City Manager Blake Jurecek told KFDX, that the goats can also go where certain mowers can't. We will wait and see if 'goatscaping' really takes off in Wichita Falls.
