C’mon man.

I can totally understand being a passionate competitor. But there’s a big difference between being a passionate competitor and a sore loser.

And here’s the perfect example of the sorest of sore losers.

During a game Wednesday (April 20) between Weatherford College and North Central Texas College in Weatherford, Weatherford pitcher Owen Woodward gave up a go-ahead home run to NCTC’s Josh Phillips in the top of the sixth inning.

Just as Phillips was approaching third base, Woodward threw his glove to the ground and then made a mad dash toward Phillips and tackled him just as he was celebrating with the third base coach as he rounded third.

Of course, the benches cleared, but everyone returned to their bullpen shortly after.

It’s not clear what provoked Woodward to tackle Phillips, but you hear the commentator say, “That was out of nowhere.” So, it sounds like it was totally unprovoked.

The umpires ultimately suspended the game, which is the first in a four-game series.

ESPN reports that neither school could be reached for comment, but in a statement issued late Wednesday afternoon, Weatherford head baseball coach Jeff Lightfoot said they were shocked by the incident:

We are shocked and disappointed at what happened in our game. We do not condone this type of behavior...We are completely embarrassed by this incident, and we apologize to North Central Texas College and the fans of WC baseball.

Weatherford College is currently investigating the incident.
