Watch: Rotation Over Dallas Fort Worth International Airport
Here’s proof that it’s almost always storm season in North Texas.
While rare, we do have tornadoes this time of year. And the thing I’ve noticed is that the severe thunderstorms that develop in fall and (to a lesser extent) winter tend to be very strong.
The tornado that struck the DFW area on December 26, 2015 immediately comes to mind. The intense EF4 tornado was only on the ground for 13 minutes. However, in that brief amount of time, it claimed the lives of 10 people, injured 468 others, and caused over $20 billion in damages.

I remember watching videos of the tornado the day after it struck and being surprised it didn’t cause more damage than it did. I’m no meteorologist but I would say that’s probably because it was only on the ground for a short period of time.
Fortunately, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex dodged a bullet yesterday when severe weather rolled through the area. As you can see in the video below, brief rotation was spotted over DFW airport.
Hopefully, that will be the last time we see any rotation for a while.
