Wichita Falls, You Need to Stop Calling All Soda Brands Coke

A small pet peeve of mine living in Wichita Falls is the Coke debate and I really don't understand it.

Scrolling through X this morning, I saw a guy called out Wichita Falls because of how some people say all sodas are Coke. You can check it out below.

^This guy is 100% right. People in Wichita Falls refer to every single soda as Coke. I once went to someone's house and they said I have Cokes in the fridge if you want one. I went to grab one and it was Fanta Orange, Sprite, and Dr. Pepper. I must be blind because I don't see any Cokes in this fridge. Some of you may have the argument that these are Coke products, but I have seen people do it with Mountain Dew.

Why Do Certain Regions Call These Products Different Things?

The Northeastern part of the country refers to the drink as soda because they grew up with soda fountains and that was how many had their first taste of the drink. These also became big in California. The upper Midwest apparently refers to it as pop because of Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works out of Michigan. They dominated this area and many think the name comes from not the actual drink, but the pop sound when you open a bottle. Fun fact, Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works is now Faygo beverages. (Shout out I.C.P.)

Fun Fact, Coca Cola Hated the Term Coke

During the early 1900's, the Coca Cola company tried really hard to get people to refer to the drink by the full name. They hated the term Coke for their drink. By 1941, they gave up trying to fight. That was the first year they used the word Coke in any of their branding. It was an icon at that point and they officially filed the Coke trademark in 1945.

If you tell me you have Coke in Wichita Falls. I better see classic, diet or zero. You all have officially lost your minds if you think root beer or grape soda is Coke.
