Haunted Podcast Covers Pinky's Cave in Wichita Falls
Apparently the 'For the Boos' podcast covers haunted locations across America and this week they went into the history of Pinky's Cave. Apparently one of the hosts named Megan, lived in Wichita Falls for period of time. Apparently she was in a military family and lived on Sheppard Air Force Base back in the day.
Where is Pinky's Cave in Wichita Falls?
Even this is controversial in town. Technically Pinky's Cave has two locations to people in Wichita Falls. The Pinky's Cave that most folks know is on Ardath Avenue in Wichita Falls. If you drive down Ardath you will encounter this small metal railing. That is supposedly the entrance to Pinky's Cave when you hop over it.
Someone actually showed off photos of the inside of this Pinky's Cave which over the years has been littered with graffiti. The other Pinky's Cave (seen below) is located off Monroe Street in Wichita Falls. Someone has pinned this location on Google Maps as the 'real' Pinky's Cave.
As you can see, both of these locations in Wichita Falls are just drainage ditches in Wichita Falls for storm water to go down. However, they're several miles long and have become a place for teens to explore. Judging the graffiti that is all over tunnel, it has been explored several times throughout the years.
How Did Pinky's Cave Get It's Name?
Someone named Robert Pinkman has claimed ownership of the 'cave' and he dubbed it 'Pinky's Cave'. Him and his friends would take others to explore the cave for fun when they were kids. Throughout the years, the name stuck and so have the stories of it being 'haunted'.
The 'Ghosts' of Pinky's Cave
The story that many have shared about Pinky's Cave was about a woman and her child getting caught in a tornado in Wichita Falls. They had nowhere to go and had to hide in Pinky's Cave to escape the storm. However, the storm was so bad that the rain flooded into Pinky's Cave. The flood waters killed the woman and her child. However, others have claimed that a man in a hat is seen in the cave when you turn off your flashlights.
Other Hauntings in Pinky's Cave
Pinky's Cave is a few miles long, so obviously you need a flashlight when you get deep into it. Explorers have claims their flashlight or fully charged phones start to lose power once they get deep within Pinky's Cave. Imagine being a mile and a half in with no power. Whether you believe in the stories of ghosts or not. Having no light source in a drain tunnel has to be terrifying.
It has been a few years since Pinky's Cave went viral. Back in 2016, a group of kids took a wild ride down the drainage tunnel during a storm. Wichita Falls police had to rescue the four kids and issued a friendly reminder that Pinky's Cave is not a place to play.
