Many Orangebloods’ feathers were ruffled when the news broke that the Texas Longhorns’ mascot Bevo would not be allowed at the SEC Championship game.

And while it’s too little too late, an online petition was launched to overturn the SEC’s decision not to allow him on the sideline for tomorrow’s game. As a Longhorn fan, I would love to see our mascot on the sideline for the game.

But I also understand safety must be the top priority for Bevo as well as the fans attending the game. I also understand the frustration of those who believe it’s merely payback for Bevo getting loose and going after Georgia’s mascot Uga during the 2019 Sugar Bowl.

Surely we can agree that it’s suspicious that he was allowed on the sideline in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, which is played in New Orleans, but not at the SEC Championship, which is played in the Bulldogs’ home state of Georgia.

Yes, it sucks that our beloved mascot won’t be there. But the reality is that it’s more about the players on the field than anything else.

So, get out there and hook ‘em Horns and bring home the championship.
