A photo of Jacksboro Highway in Wichita Falls from 1960 was shared on social media, and I barely recognized it.

Granted, I grew up in Vernon and wasn’t born until 1973, but it’s amazing just how much it’s changed over the years. So much so that only two of the businesses in the photo below remain.

As you can see, only Scott’s Drive-In and the Conoco that sits catacorner from it remain. The Conoco is way different now, but good old Scott’s still looks like it did back in the day.

Speaking of Scott's maintaining its original look, I don’t know what it is about retro architecture, but I love it – especially the designs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Our home was built in 1967, and my goal is to keep as much of the original aesthetic intact as possible.

That’s what’s so cool about the work that Downtown Wichita Falls Development has done over the years. They’ve managed to revive the downtown area with fresh, new businesses, while maintaining the old school look.

Anyway, if anyone has any other photos from Wichita Falls in years past, send them my way. I would love to put them out there for everyone to see.
