Food Network Says This is Texas’ Most Iconic Food
Food Network has revealed Texas’ most iconic food, and I can’t agree more.
You could make a case for several different foods being the most iconic in the Lone Star State. But when we’re discussing the absolute most iconic, it’s hard to argue against barbecue.
And every Texan knows brisket is the king of barbecue.

Don’t get me wrong – I love ribs, pork butt, turkey, chicken, and well, pretty much anything that is smoked. While I’m a fan of grilling, for my money, nothing beats smoked meat. Post oak is my preferred wood for smoking.
The thing about post oak is that it pairs well with just about anything you can think of, but it is perfect for brisket. Celebrated Texas barbecue joints like Kreutz in Lockhart and Franklin’s in Austin swear by it.
Speaking of Franklin’s, Food Network specifically pointed them out when making the case for brisket being Texas’ most iconic food. Admittedly, I have yet to try Frankin’s.
However, my wife’s family is from Lockhart, so we visit every couple of years or so. And we make it a point to eat there while we’re in town. So far, I have to say it’s the best brisket I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot).
