Looks like a former local high school athlete has made an Olympic team and all of us should be cheering her on.

Congratulations to Former Rider Raider Taliyah Brooks

It's not everyday where you get to go compete against the greatest athletes in the world and Taliyah Brooks will be able to show what she can do on the Olympics main stage in just a few weeks. During the Olympics trials, Brooks ran a personal best time of 2:13.39 in the 800-meter run, finishing in fourth place on Monday, June 24. Earlier, she threw for a personal best in both the javelin throw and the shot put.

When Will Taliyah Compete in the Olympics?

According to the Olympics website, if Taliyah is competing in those events. It appears to be on Friday, August 2nd for the 800 meter women's relay. Wednesday, August 7th is the women's javelin throw and Thursday, August 8th for women's shot put. We will wait and see what events Taliyah is officially competing in. USA Track & Field has yet to confirm Brooks’s spot on the team. The official announcement will be made on July 2, 2024.

“Being able to achieve the goal that I’ve wanted for so long is so exciting!” Brooks told KFDX. “I was really prepared and excited coming into it. I had everyone back home in Wichita Falls and in Arkansas supporting me and I feel really proud to be representing everybody.”

After her graduation from Rider, Taliyah would continue on her athletics at the University of Arkansas.

Throughout her college career, she set school records and was a SEC Champion as well. Now the Olympics technically kickoff on July 24th with some events, but the big opening ceremony is July 26th. NBC is once again the official home for Olympics coverage. However some events will air on other channels such as USA Network, Golf Channel, CNBC and E!.
