Wichita Falls Arrest Warrant Turns Into Massive ID Haul

Wichita Falls police back in January conducted an arrest warrant at the apartment of Tanaya King. While searching through the apartment, Wichita Falls police found over fifty ID's in the residence. These ID's were not of Tanaya King, but of other individuals all over Wichita Falls.

Almost Half of the ID's Were Reported Missing During Vehicle Breakins

Wichita Falls police started going through the names of the individuals so they could track them down. More than twenty of the people claimed their ID was stolen after their vehicle was broken into here in Wichita Falls. Obviously, many of the individuals when asked if  King should have been in possession of their ID, the victims said no.

Maximum Sentence for Fraudulent Possession of Identification

Tanaya King maybe facing a significant fine or jail time for being in possession of so many IDs. The state of Texas punishments on fraudulent possession of identification as follows:

  • If the number of items obtained or used is 5 or less, then a conviction for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information is punished as a State Jail Felony, with a maximum possible fine under Texas state law of up to $10,000 and jail time of up to two years.
  • If the number of items obtained or used is 5 or more but less than 10, then a conviction for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information is punished as a Felony of the Third Degree, with a maximum possible fine under Texas state law of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 10 years.
  • If the number of items obtained or used is 10 or more but less than 50 then a conviction for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information is punished as a Felony of the Second Degree, with a maximum possible fine under Texas state law of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 20 years.
  • If the number of items obtained or used is more than 50 then a conviction for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information is punished as a Felony of the First Degree, with a maximum possible fine under Texas state law of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 99 years.
  • In addition, the punishment may be enhanced to the next higher category of offense if it was committed against an elderly person or in an attempt to avoid sex offender registration.

Since King was in possession of over fifty ID's, she maybe facing the most severe punishment listed in bold above. A maximum possible fine under Texas state law of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 99 years. We will wait and see what happens with this case. She's currently being held in the Wichita County Jail on a $25,000 bond according to KFDX.
