Deathcore merchants Whitechapel are celebrating a decade of punishing, earth-heaving metal and are set to drop their sixth record, Mark of the Blade, June 24 through Metal Blade. Get a taste of the opening track, "The Void," above, exclusively at Loudwire.

Opening with a barren, sustained chord and backed by a rolling tom fill, Whitechapel set the mood from the first moment, sounding like a band trying to catch its breath as intensity mounts. Pairs of quick-strike, palm-muted chords slice the through the atmosphere, giving way to accented lead playing and a frantic tempo.

The chorus of "The Void" strips things down into simple and effective chugs while frontman Phil Bozeman continues to dig deep and wretch forth some of the most bowel-scraping bellows in the genre. Whitechapel play around with a greater sense of dynamics here, taking time to offer a slight reprieve with melody-centric moments. The contrast of Bozeman's guttural and the textured lead work serve the band well, ultimately sounding heavier due to the sonic disparity.

"This track is the opener for the record and it sets the pace nicely for the rest of the CD," said guitarist Alex Wade. "It's a different sound for us but still heavy and aggressive. As you can see from the title track to this, the dynamic between songs on the album is quite different so we hope the fans enjoy all the new sounds we brought to the table on this record."

Fans can pre-order Mark of the Blade here and, again, the record is out June 24 on Metal Blade.

Whitechapel are currently wrapping up a headlining tour with Fit For a King, the Plot in You and Enterprise Earth. The run will come to an end on May 22 and the group will head back out on the road on June 24 as part of this year's Warped Tour. All tour dates can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
