Walmart has expanded its drone delivery service to include the Supercenter at Beltline Road in Mesquite, Texas. NBC DFW reports customers near the Supercenter are eligible to receive their orders via drone delivery as of today (April 8). The deliveries are being handled by Zipline.

Just about every Walmart I have ever been to is as busy as it can be. So, I can only imagine how busy the sky over Mesquite is going to be as more and more people come around to the idea of drone delivery. Admittedly, I’ve been a bit on the skeptical side. As a disaster thinker, I can just imagine those things colliding in the air, sending my package crashing to the ground.

That said, the folks behind drone delivery services have been working on it for years now. I’m sure they’ve evaluated many different scenarios in which drone delivery could fail (at least I would hope so), not to mention the fact that the company started the pilot program at two North Texas locations last year, according to WFAA.

It will be interesting to see how everything unfolds in the uncharted waters of drone delivery service. I’m sure there will be plenty of bumps in the road along the way. But ultimately, I feel like that genie isn’t going back in the bottle. Drone delivery is here to stay and will only become more widespread. Unfortunately, that means some delivery drivers will find themselves out of a job at some point.
