I’ve encountered many strange-looking bugs over the years here in Texas, but never anything quite like these.

Even though I don’t spend nearly enough time in nature, I’ve always found it fascinating. It’s amazing how everything works together, forming symbiotic relationships.

I’m also blown away at how every one of those critters instinctively knows exactly what they need to do. The video below is a great example of just that.

The species, identified as homaemus proteus by a person commenting on the video on X, are an armor-backed species found in North America, Central America, and South America.

I’m assuming they’re not exactly widespread in North America because, like I said, I’ve never seen them. Admittedly, I haven’t been all over the continent, but I have seen quite a bit of it.

The clip shows how the little creatures know just how to fall in to fascinatingly form a line or circle in what I would assume is a defense mechanism. It’s a pretty cool sight to see if I must say so myself.
