WFAA ran a segment last night on Hirschi Middle School in Wichita Falls and how they're working to improve their grades.

It was back in June last year that the WFISD announced they would be working with a third party organization called Third Future Schools. This organization comes in and replaces the majority of teachers at the school with their own. WFAA shows what this is costing the WFISD and it's a pretty eye opening number.

Third Future Schools Costing WFISD $375,000 a Month

We learned from this report that the WFISD gets a two year reprieve from the Texas Education Agency taking over Hirschi Middle School. Since Third Future Schools are a third party organization, they're given a chance to improve the grades before the Texas Education Agency steps in and takes over.

Hirschi Middle School's Lunch Policy Went Viral to Start the Year

WFAA did mention the controversial lunch policy that started the year for the Hirschi students. Essentially kids had to solve a math flash card before receiving their food in the cafeteria. If they got it wrong, they went to the back of the line. They were given another opportunity to solve the problem again and if they got it wrong again. They were told how to solve it and given their food. That is one change that went viral in Wichita Falls this year, here's some others I learned in this report.

No Library, No Athletics, No Band During School Day

Looks like to improve the grades, the entire school day is learning. Any extra curricular activities like band, athletics, and even library time have been removed during the day. Hirschi does offer after school activities for students to take part in and also kids can arrive as early as 6:30 in the morning for before school activities. Back in January, we found the grades for the first semester are improving. It looks like Southern Hills Elementary and Booker T Washington Elementary will be a part of Third Future as well this fall.

So Third Future will be getting over one million dollars per month when the three schools are a part of their program? We will wait and see how it all goes, you can read more about WFAA's report here.
