Another Major Store Leaving Sikes Senter Mall in Wichita Falls, Texas
Another one of the bigger clients in Sikes Senter Mall announced they're moving out.
Not Been a Good Year for Our Mall in Wichita Falls
When you think of the bigger properties at Sikes Senter Mall. Four things come to most people's minds. Dillard's (which actually took up two stores at the mall), JC Penny, AMC Movie Theaters, and At Home. All of those properties take up massive amounts of space and sadly another one will be leaving us.
At Home Leaving Wichita Falls
Dillard's announced backed in 2022 they were closing down both Sikes Senter Mall locations. JC Penny announced just a few weeks ago they were out and apparently At Home announced to their employees last night they were leaving as well. A disgruntled employee sent an email to the station last night informing me that closing sign would be going up in the store today and sales will be starting Friday.
Will At Home Be Moving Somewhere Else in Wichita Falls?
Many stores from Sikes Senter Mall have moved into the Quail Creek Shopping Center, you may call it the Academy Shopping Center on Lawrence Road. Old Sikes Senter Mall stores like Old Navy, Buckle, and Bath and Body Works have locations over there now. According to the employee that reached out to me, At Home will be completely leaving Wichita Falls for good.
What is the Future for Sikes Senter Mall in Wichita Falls?
Less than one week ago, it was reported that Sikes Senter Mall had new owners. Summit Properties USA out of New York. Apparently this deal for the sale happened back on July 3rd, but citizens in Wichita Falls were informed during a meeting of the city's Economic Development Corporation this past week. Summit Properties USA owns malls throughout the country.
Why Did At Home Leave Sikes Senter Mall?
According to reports from employees, the cost of rent was too high at the mall and refusing to upgrade certain things on the property like air conditioning. We will see if anyone moves into At Home once they officially close. According to the employee at the store, At Home maybe open a maximum of three more months in Wichita Falls.
The one Dillard's location had Tilt arcade move in, while the other remains vacant with the exception of the occasional pop up store. JC Penny has not announced an official closing date yet and now At Home. A lot of huge retail space is up for grabs, we will wait and see if someone takes it.
