My favorite NBA big man, Shaquille O’Neal, was spotted in my old stomping grounds of Vernon, Texas.

For a small North Texas town, Vernon has had plenty of celebrities stop there over the years. Many of those celebrity sightings were professional athletes.

I remember hearing about Emmitt Smith being spotted at Allsup’s back in the 90s (if my memory serves me correctly). It seems like Tony Dorsett made a stop in town as well, when I was a kid in the 80s. Another Dallas Cowboy great, Jay Novacek, had a hunting lease in the area, so he was seen around town quite a few times.

However, I only heard about those sightings, I never witnessed them, nor did I ever see any video or photographic evidence. So, as far as I know, none of those guys may have ever set foot in my hometown. But I like to believe they did.

One thing that is 100% certain is that Shaq made a stop in Big V for some Braum’s over the weekend. I started seeing photos pop up on social media last night and one of the first things I noticed was that he represented Waggoner Ranch with the beanie he was sporting.

I also noticed he didn’t seem to mind all the attention he was getting, and I love it. It’s not often (if ever) that an NBA legend swings through Vernon, so I can’t praise him enough for taking the time to make everyone’s night.
