Santigold – Crush Of The Day

We first were interested in Santigold because she used to be called Santogold – a name taken from Santo Gold, the protagonist of bizarre 80s Z-movie ‘Santo Gold’s Blood Circus.’ And then she got sued by Santo Gold! Changing her stage name to Santigold seemed to have resolved the issues, and her career has skyrocketed from there.

Drawing comparisons to M.I.A and other multicultural pop mash-up artists, it’s been five years since her debut album dropped. In the meantime, she’s kept up a constant touring schedule, as well as writing songs for Christina Aguilera and Ashlee Simpson. Thankfully, she got back in the studio for her sophomore release, which sees her working with production from Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio, Q-Tip and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
