Did You Know the Texas A&M Dog Can Dismiss Class?
Every college has a strange tradition, but this one maybe one of my favorites.
Meet Reveille the Texas A&M Mascot
Since 1931, Texas A&M has had a dog mascot. The original Reveille was a mixed race dog, then Reveille II was a Shetland Sheepdog, and every Reveille after that has been a Rough Collie (pictured above).

Texas A&M fans probably would not want to hear this, but Bevo is probably more known across the country when it comes to Texas mascots. However, Reveille can do something Bevo can not do.
When Reveille Barks, Class is Dismissed
You see Reveille is handled by one of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. The student takes the dog to class with them and Reveille technically outranks that student. According to the Texas A&M website, Reveille is the highest-ranking member in the Corps of Cadets and wears five silver diamonds. The Corps Commander only has four.
Technically, Teachers Have the Right to Dismiss Class
Although Reveille has barked in class a few times throughout the years. Many students have tried to get her to bark to get out early. According to the A&M website, it's up to the teacher to allow the dismissal, but from what I have seen. Many of the teachers are cool with letting the tradition live on.

So the next time an Aggie is super hungover and wants to get out of class. Show that dog some love and hopefully her bark gets you out early.
