Who You Know: Metallica Unleash 'Holier Than Thou' In Brazil

On May 10, 2022, Metallica played São Paulo, Brazil, for the 10th time in their career; their last gig in the capital city was five years ago at Lollapalooza Brasil during their WorldWired tour. Metallica returned with full force at Estádio do Morumbi, covering ground from their entire career, opening with "Whiplash" and closing things out with the one-two-three punch of "Spit Out the Bone," "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman."

For fans in São Paulo, the '22 concert brought with it a lot of "first times," including the first time Metallica ever performed "Holier Than Thou" in the city.

To commemorate the recent performance of the "Black Album" track, Metallica have released a pro-shot live video of "Holier Than Thou"— fans can check it out below.

"Holier Than Thou" first made an appearance at a Metallica show on Oct. 12, 1991, in Oakland, Calif., and the recent performance in São Paulo marked only the 95th time the band has played it live.

When Metallica celebrated the 30th anniversary of the "Black Album," they released an accompanying listening experience called The Metallica Blacklist, a compilation of 53 artists covering every track on the record.
