A man in Utah has been making waves for the past few days because he was spotted in the mountains of Utah dressed as a goat. Deepening the mystery was the fact that he was hanging out with a bunch of goats who didn’t seem to mind. Authorities had their questions answered when the man made a phone call to explain what was going on.

The hunter didn’t identify himself, but they do know he’s a 57-year-old from California. He told Phil Douglass of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources this:

The man told Douglass he was preparing for an archery hunt of mountain goats next year and testing a goat suit. Douglass says the hunter came to Utah because he heard it was easier to get near goats for training.

It seems his information would be correct. People who spotted him dressed in his hooded painter’s uniform noted that he was among a herd of goats, and they didn’t seem bothered at all by his presence.

Perhaps it’s because I’m not a hunter that I’ve never heard of hanging out with the animals you’re going to hunt, but it does seem like a good idea. If you’re going to be really good at something, you need to put yourself into it completely. That’s exactly what this guy did.

There’s no word on whether or not he got any goat’s phone number, or if they’ll be inviting him back to hang out in the future.
