Looks like some construction on Highway 287 has upset a lot of citizens and they want answers after an online petition has gone viral.

Highway 287 Construction Cracking Windshields?

Looks like a construction project between Iowa Park and Wichita Falls is causing folks to call their insurance companies over cracked windshields. The petition created by Joseph Brown, claims that the company responsible for the highway construction is not doing it properly. He claims loose debris was not picked up during this construction which caused it to go flying into people's windshields as they were driving by.

Comments from Concerned Wichita Falls Area Drivers

So far, over 200 people have signed the petition. With several others leaving comments detailing the issues they have had since driving by the construction area.

  • "Three cracks so far! Not wanting to pay to replace it until they finish the roads as they continue to leave more gravel behind instead of sweeping the roads for our safety," said Hillary Scott.
  • "We have a cracked windshield bc of the terrible road construction on Hwy 287. Fix one lane at a time," said Kendra Langford.
  • "As an ex TxDOT employee I am knowledgeable in the process of milling out a highway surface. Traveling 287 daily during Zack Burkett’ construction I can say with 100% certainty that the roadway was not properly swept of debris after the milling process which caused my windshield damage as well as countless others. This poor cleanup process is unacceptable and the damages should be addressed. One or two cars being damaged is one thing, but the amount of actual damage done CLEARLY is evidence of contractor fault," said Steven Staley.

These are just some of the many examples of people complaining about the damages to their vehicles. Like I mentioned, 200 people have already signed the petition, with half of those actually detailing damages to their vehicles in the comments.
