The accident occurred just before 1:30 pm on Henry S. Grace near Southwest Parkway. A 2005 Chevy Cobalt was occupied by 7 people, 2 adults and 5 children, none of whom was properly restrained according to a report from KFDX. According to General Motors website, the Cobalt is described as a 5-passenger vehicle.

The vehicle rolled multiple times, ejecting all of the passengers and killing 4-year-old Christian Redmond. Everyone else in the vehicle was taken to United Regional Hospital and reportedly were in stable condition. The driver was found to have the odor of alcohol on her breath and has now been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

30-year-old Migel Matthews was found to have alcohol on her breath when interviewed by officers on the scene. She was transported to United Regional, and once released was taken to the Wichita County Jail. Empty cans of some “alcoholic beverage” were found among the wreckage and an unopened can was also found in the car. A passenger told police Matthews had been drinking prior to the accident. She was held on a $25,000 bond, but had bonded out of the Wichita County Jail as of 11 am Monday.

In Texas, intoxication manslaughter is a second degree felony that carries a possible punishment of 2 to 20 years in prison a fine of up to $10,000.
