Cranberries Singer Dolores O’Riordan Died by Accidental Drowning
Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan died by "drowning due to alcohol intoxication," according to a report from the BBC. She was allegedly found fully submerged in the bath of her room at London's Park Lane Hilton hotel. The coroner deemed her death as a "tragic accident."
The BBC reports that toxicology tests showed only "therapeutic" amounts of medication in O'Riordan's system, but her blood-alcohol level was "four times over the 80mg legal limit for driving."
Police reportedly found five small bottles of an unspecified liquid, an a bottle of champagne, all of which were empty. There were also multiple pill bottles found, but it was noted that all have tablets remaining in them. The BBC's report added that no signs of self-harm were found.
O’Riordan served as the Cranberries' vocalist from 1990 until their initial breakup in 2003. She reunited with the band in 2009, and was with them until she passed. Her death occurred just hours before she was scheduled to record guest vocals on Bad Wolves' cover of the Cranberries' "Zombie." Bad Wolves donated $250,000 of proceeds from their version of "Zombie" to O’Riordan's family.
