Concerned Citizen Petitions City Council to Remove the Name ‘Boneless Wings’
Well, he does have a point.
Ander Christensen of Lincoln, Nebraska approached the Lincoln City Council back on August 31 with a hilarious, yet valid, concern.
With a straight face, he insisted that Lincoln had “the opportunity to be a social leader in this country” and needed to stop ignoring a problem that had gotten seriously out of control. And that problem is the phrase “boneless chicken wings.”
He went on to explain that everyone knows they’re not actually wings, in fact, they’re not even made from the wing. He claimed they’re just tenders. However, I would argue that they’re actually nuggets, but whatever.
Boneless chicken wings are nothing more than a marketing ploy. Sure, I love ‘em, because I love white meat (not that I’ll be turning down real wings, mind you). But, I’m a firm believer in calling it like you see it.
Anyway, he suggested the city remove “boneless wings” from restaurant menus and rename them either “buffalo style chicken tenders” or “wet tenders” or maybe something along the lines of “saucy nugs” or even “trash.”
Maybe it’s time we all take a good hard look at ourselves and decide whether or not we’re okay with “people throwing this name around and pretending as though everything is just fine.”
