My Path: From High School to the Radio Industry
While I’m not a college graduate, I have had some college. I was going to college when I was first hired into the radio business, so I finished that semester and didn’t re-enroll the next semester. I did go back a few years later and would take a couple of classes a semester as more of a hobby than anything, as I was working in the industry that I wanted to be in.

But when I first graduated from high school, I had no desire whatsoever to go to college. I was sick of school, so much so that I joined the Navy via the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) in October of my senior year. However, after a five-year stint, I was more than ready to go to college.
So, I have an appreciation for both attending college and going directly into the workforce. Both routes can lead to successful careers. It’s just a matter of finding the right fit for you. In many cases, it takes a lot of trial and error in both college and the workforce before you finally find your calling.
More Grads Choosing Work, Trade School Over College
These days, more and more young adults are ditching the traditional college route for trade schools, non-traditional education, and on the job training for hands-on careers. With that in mind, researchers at K12 analyzed data to determine the best cities for high school grads who aren’t going to college and found Dallas, Irving, and Garland to all be in the Top 5.
