Ten years and many beers later, Skeletonwitch continue to grace us with their unique brand of Blackened Thrash.

With the release of Serpents Unleashed, the band saw their highest chart debut, entering the Billboard 200 at No. 62. An amazing feat for an underground band who refuses to compromise to sell a few more records. Sure, the band have grown as songwriters and have sprinkled a couple of new elements into their music but make no mistake about it, Serpents Unleashed is everything a fan of Skeletonwitch could hope for.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the band chose to work with one of the most revered and hottest producers in metal, Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at his own Godcity Studios. Kurt's unique touch captured the intensity and punch of a Skeletonwitch live show, something that had been missing from their earlier albums and I don't think it's any coincidence that Serpents Unleashed had such a strong debut with Kurt at the helm.

Guitarist Scott Hedrick called the BuzzLine for last Saturday's (12/7) edition of The Oath and I asked him how much he thought Kurt's production had to do with the album's strong debut. We also talked about the fact that Skeletonwitch just celebrated their tenth anniversary, some of his fondest memories from the last decade and more. Listen to our conversation below.
