With school starting in a few weeks in Wichita Falls, the local public library wants to celebrate all the kids that spent their summer break reading as a part of their program.

Summer Reading Program Coming to a Close in Wichita Falls

Shout out to all the kids in Wichita Falls that were a part of the summer reading program. Kids in our area were encouraged to read books and earn prizes by reading throughout the past couple weeks. Kids could read ten books in ten different categories to broaden their horizons or earn prizes for every ten days of reading they did. The library had different challenges on Beanstack they could do this summer.

Summer Reading Program Closes Out with a Free Concert

To celebrate the end of the summer reading program for 2025. The Wichita Falls Public Library is putting on a free concert with Hellen Bach this Wednesday. Kids and their families are encouraged to attend at the library at 4:30 this Wednesday. If you have not been to the Wichita Falls Public Library before they're located at 600 11th Street in downtown Wichita Falls.

Of course kids should enjoy their summer vacation, but it's vital your kids don't spend the entire summer lounging around. More than half of kids admit the only time they read, is when they're assigned something in school. Some kids suffer from a summer slide, which refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the summer months. Kids that participate in summer reading programs say that reading over the summer got them better prepared for the upcoming school year.
