
Wichita Falls, Texas Tornado Chances Increased for Monday Night
Always be weather aware, but chances of severe weather has increased going into tonight.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA has been keeping an eye on possible severe storms in our area going into Tuesday morning. Just about an hour ago, the Wichita Falls area was upgraded from slight risk, to enhanced risk. The area affected encapsulates just North of Oklahoma City to as far south as Fort Worth. For folks in that area it is smart to have a plan in place tonight if severe weather strikes.
The latest models as of one hour ago, give our area a 10-14% chance of a tornado touching down in the affected area. Quarter size hail and gusts up to 60 mph could be a part of this storm as well.
What Should Be in Your Emergency Supply Kit?
- Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)
- Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Extra batteries
- Whistle (to signal for help)
- Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
- Plastic sheeting, scissors and duct tape (to shelter in place)
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
- Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
- Manual can opener (for food)
- Local maps
- Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
According to Ready.gov, that should be all the basic things you have in case a tornado were to touchdown. You can get more tips on their website. Keep an eye on the storms tonight and we will see how it affects our area.
