If you're currently out of work due to the government shutdown. The Wichita Falls Food Bank is setting up an emergency pantry Saturday morning to help you out.

On October 1st, 2025 a government shutdown took place due to Congress being unable to pass an appropriations legislation for the 2026 fiscal year. We're several weeks into the shutdown at this point and many folks are starting to feel the financial strain. If you live in Wichita Falls and need food due to this government shutdown. Here is what our local area food bank is doing for you. 

A big part of this government shutdown being affected is military personnel. So the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank will be setting up near Sheppard Air Force Base's Main Gate. From 10 AM to 12:00 PM tomorrow (October 25, 2025). They will be distributing food for those affected by the shutdown. Please refer to the map above to ensure you follow the proper procedures during this process. They ask that the line form on Burkburnett Road and you don't block anyone's driveway or entrance to a business.

How Many Are Affected by the Government Shutdown in Texas?

According to the White House, 218,000 federal workers are in Texas. A big portion of the state also is on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.Texas has 3,455,000 total enrollees in SNAP, and an estimated 1,341,000 whom are children. Looks like that will discontinue at the end of this month. Social security checks will also see delays, that will affect 28,700 Texans.  Finally the WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) program stops immidiatly during a govenment shutdown. Six Women Held in Wichita County for Attack at ICE Facility

These six women are currently on a federal hold in the Wichita County Jail as of September 23, 2025. They have been accused of planning an orchestrated attack at an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas on the Fourth of July in 2025. You can read more on their case here.
