How to Get Rid of Crickets in Wichita Falls Without Chemicals
Starting to feel like a plague is upon us in Wichita Falls with how many crickets are out there. Here are some natural ways you can get rid of crickets.
Why the F*** Can I Not Go Anywhere Without Seeing Dozens of Crickets
Apparently Wichita Falls has created the perfect breeding ground for crickets this year. Mild winter, wet spring, and now that it is so hot. It's forcing all these crickets to hatch at the same time. So what can you do without spraying insecticide all over your yard/house because you have pets or kids? Give these a try.
Molasses Bowl
Get a big bowl and put in a tablespoon of molasses. Then add about ten cups of water. The crickets will be attracted to the sweet molasses smell. Jump into the bowl and won't be able to get back out.
Vacuum
If you're noticing the crickets inside of your home. May want to start increasing the amount of vacuuming you're doing. It's possible the crickets could be laying eggs inside of your home. They tend to lay eggs in a warm/moist area.
Mowing Your Yard
Don't let these crickets form their nests outside of your home. Keep your grass as short as possible. Get rid of any weeds in your yard and trim back any bushes or tree branches that are touching the exterior walls of your home. This also includes any clutter outside your home like a giant wood pile, grass clippings or trash.
Turn Off Outdoor Lights
Like many bugs, crickets are attracted to light. If you have been coming at night while leaving that porch light on and having to hear that crunch of a cricket under your shoe. May want to start turning that off when you leave.
Spray Chili Powder Around Your Yard
Once again, not trying to use chemicals so a natural deterrent is chili powder. Pour two cups of water into a spray bottle with a table spoon of chili powder. Also add some dish soap. Lightly spritz baseboards, plants, and entry points with your repellent since crickets are driven away by the spicy capsaicin. Add a clove of minced garlic to the solution for added power against larger cricket infestations.
Let Natural Predators Do Their Thing
Mufassa once taught us about the great circle of life and this means just letting nature run it's course. Let those spiders, lizards, and birds do their thing. With the way things have been going in Wichita Falls, they have quite the buffet on their hands right now.
