What Does Corey Taylor Think of the ‘What Does Corey Taylor Think’ Meme?
It's the burning question at the fingertips of Loudwire readers whenever there's a news item, be it Gary Holt's hatred of the Kardashians or Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows list of top 10 metal albums..."What does Corey Taylor think?" It doesn't matter if the story has nothing to do with Taylor on any level - everyone wants to know his thoughts on it!
The hilarity fills our Facebook page on a daily - even hourly - basis, and now, Metal Hammer has taken the gag even one step further, asking the Stone Sour / Slipknot frontman, "What does Corey Taylor think of the 'What Does Corey Taylor Think' meme?"
“I think it’s hilarious," he says. "It’s funny, because people act like I just toot my own f--king horn or chime in. I only give my opinion when people like you ask – I’m not online doing this sh-t. I think that meme is in reaction to the fact that my opinion gets picked up by a million f--kin’ media outlets, and then it’s turned into a thousand different news stories, and it’s taken so far out of f--king context that you have to trace it all the way back to the source material to figure out what’s being said.”
As one of the more outspoken voices on the metal scene, when Taylor gets hit up to provide his thoughts on random news, be it Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington having choice words for his band's fans or even a hot topic like the Confederate flag debate, he always has something to say. Asked if it gets annoying, Taylor concedes, “It’s a pain in my ass, however the meme is hilarious."
"I love that it’s used in a way that takes the piss out of me but also takes the piss out of other people as well," he adds. "It’s saying, ‘Stop doing this clickbait bullsh-t, we don’t care. If we did care, we would’ve read the f--king interview.’ I think it’s funny.”
At least Taylor has a sense of humor about it, but when asked if it ever pisses him off, he concedes that it does – but not much.
“A little bit, but I get over it – you have to have thick skin in this business," he says. "If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been made fun of, screamed at or talked sh-t about, I wouldn’t need to do this gig, or I’d be doing it at a whole other opulent level, coming in a gold f--king limo handing out titles for everyone!”
In other Taylor related news, Danny Wimmer Presents has just released an exclusive Driven interview where he talks about what drives him. The video for that can be seen below, with the sole remaining question about it being, obviously, "What does Corey Taylor think?"
