There sure are a lot of towns with strange names here in Texas. 

In most instances, it’s hard to fathom how folks in those places settled on those names. I find it hard to believe there wasn’t at least some pushback when the name Ding Dong was introduced. Sure, Ding Dong is the sound a bell makes, but it’s also a term used for a not-so-smart person or a certain part of the male anatomy.

And then there’s Frognot. What in the world were those people thinking? Maybe someone went gigging for frogs one day and came up empty, so they decided to make sure the world knew there were no frogs in the area so they wouldn’t waste their time.

Admittedly, some of the names are pretty cool with one literally being dubbed Cool. That sounds like my kind of place. Whether it’s a reference to the weather or the people being chill, I would bet a dollar to a donut that I’d be happy in a town named Cool.

And when it comes to kick-ass town names, it doesn’t get any better than Gun Barrel City. I can’t think of a more Texas name than that. We do love our guns in the Lone Star State.
