Sadly, before kickoff yesterday we all found out that the Dallas Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention. With the Washington Commanders win, the Dallas Cowboys had no shot at the playoffs this year. The Cowboys came out of the first quarter with a 10-0 lead yesterday. Tampa was able to claw back into the game with two big touchdowns in the 2nd. The teams kept it close the rest of the way with the Cowboys squeaking out a 26-24 win.
Future for Mike McCarthy?
One of the biggest decisions in the off season will be the head coach. Jason Garrett got an extension for the Cowboys back in 2015 as the head coach and many feel Jerry Jones could do the same with McCarthy. You have to remember in 2014, that is coming off of the controversial Dez Bryant no catch in Green Bay. Many thought the Cowboys were a right call away from that potential NFC Championship, so extending Jason Garrett at that time was not that crazy of a call.
McCarthy has a winning record as a Dallas Cowboys head coach. This season and his first in 2020 are his only seasons were he will not finish with a winning record that has double digit wins. When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, the regular season doesn't mean anything and fans will look at his playoff record which is 1-3. Which is actually worse than Jason Garrett who went 2-3 as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. We will wait and see what the future holds for the Cowboys and two games remain in the season. The next will be in Philadelphia on Sunday with a kickoff at 3:25.
