I really like weird stuff. I enjoy weird news, weird photos, weird videos, weird everything. It should come as no surprise, then, that I also like weird Valentine's Day gift ideas. After all, if you can incorporate something strange into your gift strategy, it'll be remembered over just flowers or chocolates.

Enter the Bronx Zoo. For a few years now, the zoo has been offering a service similar to naming a star. In their case, however, you're given the chance to name one of their 58,000 Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.

Yes, you read that correctly. Name a roach for your sweetie!

The concept behind this promotion is pretty simple: Flowers wilt. Candlelight fades. Roaches are forever.

Pricing to name your roach starts at just $10, but for an extra $15 you can also receive a Cocoa-Roach in the mail. Your sweetie also gets an email saying Happy Valentine's Day from your Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, along with a certificate saying your roach name along with a personalized message.

People actually do this. My husband's Cocoa-Roach will be here sometime this week, and this isn't the first time we've made a contribution to the zoo in the way of naming a roach. Part of the allure of doing it is because some people are so horrified by the concept. I guess I'm just twisted in that I think it's hilarious.

If you'd like to name your own roach, visit the Bronx Zoo site and they'll give you all the details. In the meantime, I'm leaving you with their promotional Cocoa-Roach video, letting you know all about the deluxe chocolate. Yum!
