Texas Named One of America’s Filthiest States for Dining, According to New Study
Texas diners, I have some bad news for you. And by bad news, I mean some of the worst possible news for those who like to eat out.
I have a confession to make – I'm a total germophobe. Not to the point that it’s crippling for me, but enough that people who are close to me notice it. It didn’t take long after coming to work here before my coworkers identified me as the office hand washer.

Study Uses TripAdvisor Reviews to Rank Dirty Restaurants
So, I was very interested in the results of a study by Affordable Seating. Researchers used TripAdvisor reviews to determine which states were the filthiest for dining.
Ultimately, they found Texas was the fifth-filthiest state to eat in America. Yikes. Here’s the rundown:
Reviews Mentioning ‘Dirty Restaurant’ - 1,068
Reviews Mentioning ‘Hair in Food’ - 471
Reviews Mentioning ‘Rats and Roaches’ - 232
I don’t know about you, but any mention of a restaurant being dirty or having rats or roaches is a dealbreaker for me. You wouldn’t be able to get me to eat there with a gun to my head. I can forgive a place when I find hair in my food, as long as it only happens once. If it happens more than once, I’m out.
Yeah, it sucks to find out there are so many gross restaurants in the Lone Star State. But look at the bright side – at least we’re not in New Jersey, the filthiest state to eat in the U.S.
