Steve Harris on Idea of Iron Maiden + Judas Priest Tour: ‘Why Not?’
The idea of a joint tour between Iron Maiden and Judas Priest has been publicly supported by two members of Judas Priest. Now a member of Maiden — Steve Harris — has been asked about the hypothetical tour, to which he responded, "Why not?"
Harris, who will release The Burning, his second album from his British Lion band, in January, was asked about the proposed tour featuring the two legendary groups as a guest on Sirius XM's "Trunk Nation."
The Iron Maiden bassist admitted he had seen Rob Halford's comments expressing hope that the tour could one day happen, giving an optimistic shoulder shrug when he said, "So, I don't know. I suppose the management has gotta get their heads together and [make] something like that [happen]. But, yeah, why not? I suppose the fans can push for it to happen. But we'll see."
If the tour does materialize, it would be the first time the two U.K. icons hit the road together since 1981 when Priest brought Maiden out as their special guest on the trek supporting Point of Entry. Looking back nearly 40 years, Harris said of those times, "[I have] lots of good memories and I really love that album — Point Of Entry. Some people don't think it's their favorite Priest album, but I suppose because we were on tour [with Priest at the time] I really liked it."
There's a lot on deck in 2020 for Harris. As mentioned earlier, his side band, British Lion, will release The Burning, their first album since debuting in 2012. The group will embark on their first-ever U.S. tour in January, giving Maiden fans an opportunity to see Harris perform in a club environment and you can check the dates below to see if British Lion are coming to a city near you.
After that wraps up, it's back to Iron Maiden, who recently announced three months' worth of more "Legacy of the Beast" tour dates, which can be viewed here.
