An Original Store Inside Sikes Senter Mall Moving in Wichita Falls
A store that has literally been in Sikes Senter Mall since it opened in 1974 has decided they want out before the mall sees it final days.
Certain stores just scream shopping malls and sadly one of those stores announced they're opening a new location in Wichita Falls outside of the mall. According to Times Record News, Spencer's Gifts is looking at a new location on Lawrence Road. Spencer's was the last remaining store at Sikes Senter that was their on opening day.
What is the Future of Sikes Senter Mall in Wichita Falls?
The mall currently has less than thirty businesses operating on their property. The plan was to hire someone to redevelop the property starting in 2027 and have a new completed design by 2031. The city of Wichita Falls now owns Sikes Senter Mall, which has lead to some frustration from locals at city council meetings as to what the plan is for this property's future.
Proposed Plan for Sikes Senter Mall Last Year
The proposed plan back in 2025 was to have seven acres become a new football/soccer/track and field stadium for Midwestern State University. The remaining 53 acres of the Sikes Senter Property would be turned into a new outdoor retail center. The goal was to have that project completed by 2031. We will wait and see if that plan comes to fruition.
